An older resident at home, supported by WECR

Stay home. Stay independent.

If you, your parent, or someone you care for is finding parts of home harder than they used to be — we can help. A home visit, an honest conversation, and a clear plan. No pressure, no sales pitch.

Whatever you’re asking about, you’re in the right place.

We’re a Bristol-based charity and Home Improvement Agency. For nearly 40 years we’ve helped older and disabled people live safely and well in their own homes across the South West.

You don’t need a referral. You don’t need to know what you’re looking for. You don’t need to be ‘bad enough’ yet. If something at home isn’t working — call us, and we’ll start with a conversation.

Six everyday situations we can help with.

01

If you're finding the stairs harder, we can fit a stairlift.

Survey, recommend, install — often within a few weeks of funding approval. Use the whole house again.

02

If the bathroom isn't safe anymore, we can fit a walk-in shower.

Level-access showers, non-slip floors, and grab rails where they actually help. The most common adaptation we install.

03

If getting in the front door has become hard, we can build a ramp.

Threshold ramps for small steps; modular ramps for bigger ones. Handrails fitted where needed.

04

If your home is cold, we can help warm it up.

Insulation, draught-proofing, and access to grant-funded warm-homes programmes including the BNES Affordable Warmth Grant.

05

If small jobs are piling up, we can sort them.

Lightbulbs, sticking doors, curtain rails, dripping taps — a single visit, a fair price, the whole list done.

06

If your home has become overwhelming, we can help — slowly.

Making Space is a confidential support service for people whose homes have become hard to manage. No clipboards, no rush, no judgment.

The HIA the sector voted best in England.

In 2024, the National Healthy Housing Awards named We Care Home Improvements the best Home Improvement Agency in England. The work is funded by councils, the NHS, and grants — so for many people we help, it’s free at the point of use.

[TBC: pull a real individual client testimonial — confirm before use.] They came to look at the bathroom and within a few weeks the whole thing was done. The team were lovely, the work was tidy, and I can finally have a shower without worrying I'm going to fall.

[TBC: pull a family-member testimonial — confirm before use.] My mum had been worrying about the stairs for two years. WECR came round, didn't pressure her, and a few months later there was a stairlift in. She's using the whole house again.

The things people usually ask first.

If your question isn't here, call us on 0300 323 0700 or email info@wecr.org.uk — we'll answer plainly.

Who can ask for help from WECR?
Anyone — older people, disabled people, people in vulnerable situations, and the families and carers around them. You don't need a referral and you don't need to wait for things to get bad. [TBC: confirm full eligibility wording]
How much will it cost?
It depends on the work and how it's funded. For most clients we work with, council Disabled Facilities Grant funding, NHS partnership funding, or charitable funding covers the cost in full. For others, we'll quote clearly before any work starts. [TBC: confirm pricing/funding wording]
How do I know whether a DFG would cover my situation?
You don't need to work that out yourself — that's our job. Call us, we'll come for a home visit, and we'll talk through eligibility and funding routes together. We complete the paperwork with you.
How long does it take?
A small job — like a single grab rail — can often happen within days. Larger adaptations like a level-access shower take longer, partly because of grant funding processes. We'll give you a realistic timeline at first contact, not a marketing one. [TBC: confirm typical turnaround times]
My parent doesn't want to ask for help. Can you talk to them?
This is one of the things we're asked about most often. We come out, have a normal conversation, and listen first — no pressure, no clipboard. Lots of people decide to take a next step once they've actually met us. You're welcome to be there, or not.
Are you a charity?
Yes — We Care Home Improvements is a registered charity and an accredited Home Improvement Agency. We're funded through a mix of council contracts, NHS partnerships, grants, and our trading activity. Any surplus goes back into the service. [TBC: charity number]
