A walk-in shower fitted as part of a WECR bathroom adaptation

Bathroom adaptations.

Wet rooms, walk-in showers, grab rails, raised toilets, non-slip flooring. A bathroom designed around how you actually need to use it — not how it was built thirty years ago.

An accessible bathroom fitted by WECR with grab rails and level-access shower

Bathrooms that work, with the worry taken out.

The bathroom is where most home accidents happen — and it’s often the room people start to dread first. A high-sided bath, a slippery floor, and nothing to hold on to is a fall waiting to happen.

We design and install accessible bathrooms across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and the wider South West. Most clients qualify for a Disabled Facilities Grant — and we handle the paperwork. You don’t need to chase forms.

If any of this sounds familiar, we can help.

01

Getting in and out of the bath has become risky.

A level-access shower removes the climb entirely. Walk straight in, no lip, non-slip flooring, seat if needed. The most common adaptation we install.

02

I've already had a slip in the bathroom.

Grab rails in the right places — by the toilet, in the shower, near the bath — make the difference. We'll come and look and recommend what's actually needed.

03

My parent uses a wheelchair and the bathroom isn't accessible.

A full wet room — level floor, drained correctly, with room to manoeuvre — gives independence back. We design around the equipment that's already in use.

04

The toilet's too low.

A raised toilet seat or a replacement higher-height toilet sounds small. It isn't — it can be the difference between managing alone and needing help every time.

05

The bathroom floor is slippery.

Non-slip vinyl, fitted properly with sealed edges, replaces the floor with something safe — without making the room look clinical.

06

Tap handles are too stiff for arthritic hands.

Lever taps replace standard taps in an hour and make daily use much easier. A small change with a daily payoff.

Most bathroom adaptations are covered in full by the council’s Disabled Facilities Grant. We manage the paperwork, the trades, and the install — and we do this work week in, week out.

Everything from rip-out to first wash.

A bathroom adaptation isn’t just plumbing. It’s the whole job, done in one go, by people who know what they’re doing.

We work out the right layout and the right equipment for your bathroom and your needs.

DFG paperwork

Funding application managed end-to-end. You sign — we chase.

Old bath, tiles, and flooring removed and taken away.

Plumbing and waterproofing

Wet rooms tanked correctly. No corners cut on the parts you can't see.

Fitting and tiling

Shower, toilet, basin, grab rails, non-slip flooring — installed by our own trades.

Decoration and clean-up

Walls made good, paint touched up, everything cleaned. We leave it the way we'd want it left.

[TBC: pull a real client testimonial about a bathroom adaptation. Placeholder reads like the kind of thing clients say — confirm before use.] They took out the bath, fitted a level-access shower, and I can finally wash without worrying I'm going to fall. It took a week and they cleaned everything up before they left.

The things people usually ask first.

If your question isn't here, call us on 0300 323 0700 or email info@wecr.org.uk — we'll answer plainly.

Can a DFG pay for a bathroom adaptation?
Yes — bathroom adaptations are one of the most common things a Disabled Facilities Grant funds. If you, or someone in your household, has difficulty using the existing bathroom because of disability, age, or a medical condition, you may qualify. We'll help you find out and complete the application.
How long does a wet room take to fit?
Most wet rooms take around a week on site once we start. The lead time before we start depends on DFG approval and our schedule — we'll give you a realistic date at the home visit. [TBC: confirm typical lead time]
Will I be without a bathroom while the work is done?
We try to minimise disruption — but yes, there will be days when the bathroom isn't usable. We'll talk through the practicalities at the home visit so you can plan.
Can you keep the bath as well as fit a shower?
Sometimes — it depends on the room size and what the funding will cover. We'll be honest about whether it's possible and whether it's a good idea.
Do you fit grab rails on their own, without a full adaptation?
Yes. A few grab rails fitted properly can transform a bathroom for someone who isn't ready for bigger work. Call us — we can usually fit them within a few weeks.
Is the equipment medical-looking?
Not unless it needs to be. Modern accessible bathrooms can look like normal bathrooms — slim grab rails, neutral non-slip flooring, walk-in showers without the institutional feel. We design with that in mind.
