A warm, well-lit older-adult home interior

Energy efficiency and warm homes.

Insulation, draught-proofing, heating advice, winter prep. A warm home is a safe home — especially in later life, especially in a cold winter.

A warm home is a healthier home.

Cold homes are a public health problem. They make falls more likely, chest conditions worse, and winters genuinely dangerous for older people and people with long-term conditions.

We help with the practical changes that make a home warmer and cheaper to heat — insulation, draught-proofing, heating advice, and the small repairs that close the gaps. We work alongside grant programmes including the Bath & NE Somerset Affordable Warmth Grant, and we can point you to other schemes where you live.

For many clients, this work is free at the point of use — paid for through grants and our charitable funding. [TBC: confirm current programmes and eligibility]

Book a home visit

If any of this sounds familiar, we can help.

01

I'm worried about heating costs this winter.

We can do an energy assessment of the home, suggest the cheapest changes with the biggest impact, and check what grants you qualify for.

02

There's a draught I can't find.

We track down draughts, seal them properly, and check loft hatches, letterboxes, and unused fireplaces — the usual culprits.

03

The boiler's old and I don't know what to do.

Honest heating advice — when to replace, when to repair, and what grant funding might be available. [TBC: confirm boiler-replacement scheme participation]

04

The loft has no insulation, or not much.

Top-up loft insulation is one of the cheapest ways to make a home warmer. We can arrange or fit it depending on the property.

05

I live in a council/HA property and it's cold.

Many warm-homes programmes are delivered in partnership with social landlords. We'll work with your landlord on the right approach.

06

I qualify for the Affordable Warmth Grant — what now?

If you live in Bath & NE Somerset and meet the eligibility criteria, the Affordable Warmth Grant can cover heating and insulation measures. We help with the application and the work.

Warmer homes, lower bills, less worry in winter.

Many of our warm-homes measures are free at the point of use — funded through the BNES Affordable Warmth Grant and other schemes. We handle the application and do the work.

From first call to a warmer home.

Insulation and draught-proofing are usually one to two days on site. Heating measures take longer because of approval and supplier timescales.

[TBC: pull a real client testimonial about warm homes / Affordable Warmth Grant work. Placeholder reads like the kind of thing clients say — confirm before use.] My heating bills had become frightening. They came out, sorted the loft insulation, fixed the draughts, and the difference this winter has been enormous. I'm warm, and I'm not panicking about the bills.

The things people usually ask first.

If your question isn't here, call us on 0300 323 0700 or email info@wecr.org.uk — we'll answer plainly.

What is the Affordable Warmth Grant?
The Affordable Warmth Grant is a programme run by Bath & North East Somerset Council, helping people on lower incomes or with health conditions pay for heating and insulation measures. We work with the council on this programme. [TBC: confirm current eligibility wording and grant cap]
Do I have to live in Bath & NE Somerset to get help?
No. We work across Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath & NE Somerset and the wider South West. Different areas have different grant programmes — we know what's available where you live and we'll point you in the right direction.
Is the work free?
For many clients, yes — grant funding and our charitable funding can cover it fully. For others there may be a contribution. We'll be transparent before any work starts. [TBC: confirm funding wording]
How quickly can the work be done?
Insulation and draught-proofing can usually be scheduled within a few weeks. Bigger measures (heating replacement) depend on grant approval and supplier availability. [TBC: confirm typical lead times]
Can you give energy bill advice as well?
We can give general guidance and, where helpful, signpost to specialist energy advice services. We're not financial advisers — but we know who is. [TBC: confirm partner services]
Can you do this work in a rented property?
Often yes — with the landlord's agreement. Some grant programmes are specifically designed for the social rented sector and we can advise.
